When it comes to pain management, first and foremost, consult with your doctor. There are several things you can try at home, and there are things only a doctor can prescribe or do. It depends on your individual situation. Everyone is different.
At home, you can try NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen, heating pads, and warm baths or showers. I have recently discovered a TENS unit, but use it with caution and, again, consult your doctor.
Some women find relief by simply changing their diet, exercising more, and managing stress. Pelvic floor exercises/therapy may give you relief and strengthen your muscles.
Hormonal therapy, such as birth control (a wide variety), can stop or regulate periods. Progestin-only contraceptives can also reduce or eliminate periods. Muscle injections into the pelvic floor and a wide variety of medications can be prescribed by a doctor.
Surgery is also often an option, depending on severity. Laparoscopy—the removal of endo tissue and/or scar tissue. Excision—the cutting out of endo growths. And a partial or full hysterectomy.
AGAIN… always seek a doctor’s opinion from someone who specializes in endo and women’s health!
